What are Invisible Aligners?
Do you want straight teeth but do not like the idea of traditional braces? Then, clear aligners are the answer to your prayers, proudly providing perfect teeth and newfound confidence to all our patients!
At Frederick Dental Dublin 1, we offer clear aligners, the modern alternative to metal braces that won’t disrupt your life. Achieving perfectly straight teeth was conventionally achieved by the traditional metal braces during a person’s teen years.
Invisible Orthodontics
Orthodontic treatment has come a long way in recent years. New technology has given patients more options when it comes to correcting their smiles. One of the most popular new treatments is Invisalign. The invisible Aligners is a system of clear, removable aligners that are virtually invisible. So, what are the benefits of Invisalign over traditional braces?
Clear aligners are orthodontic devices composed of a transparent plastic dental brace moulded to the ideal shape of your teeth. Clear aligners at Frederick Dental, Dublin 1, are the leading answer to straighter teeth among young adults who prefer not to wear traditional metal braces. Clear aligners have transformed the world of orthodontics and helped patients regain their confidence without worrying about wearing braces.
Another advantage of Invisalign over braces is that they are more comfortable to wear. Metal braces can rub against your cheeks and gums, causing irritation. They can also make it difficult to eat certain foods because of the risk of breaking a bracket or wire. Invisalign aligners are made from a soft, flexible material that is much gentler on your mouth. And since you remove them before eating, there’s no need to worry about food getting stuck in your aligners or damaging them.
What are the treatment options?
Several clear aligners available on the market provide similar results. Patients receiving clear aligners to straighten their teeth will wear a set of customized aligners for a set amount of time – the time needed to wear these trays and see your orthodontist will determine the results. Invisalign clear aligners allow you to brush normally and eat whatever you want without disruption.
The other option for patients wishing to straighten their teeth is wearing metal or clear braces. However, as time has progressed and technology has developed, patients tend to take the clear aligner route to achieve a seamlessly perfect smile in a short period. Clear aligners are also an excellent option for people who have previously worn braces as children and had an orthodontic relapse where the teeth drift back.
What are clear aligners used to treat?
Invisible aligners can actually be used to treat a wide variety of dental problems.
An overbite is when the top teeth protrude too far over the bottom teeth. This can cause a number of problems, such as difficulty eating and speaking, gum irritation, and an increased risk of tooth wear and breakage. Invisalign can be used to gradually move the teeth back into their proper position.
An underbite is the opposite of an overbite; in this case, the bottom teeth protrude too far forward. This can also cause difficulties with eating and speaking, as well as pain in the jaw joint. Invisalign can be used to gradually move the bottom teeth back into alignment with the top teeth.
An open bite is when there is a space between the biting surfaces of the teeth when the mouth is closed. This can make it difficult to bite into food, and can also lead to gum irritation and tooth wear. Invisalign can be used to close the spaces between the teeth and create a normal bite.
Crooked teeth are simply teeth that are not in a straight line. This can affect both the appearance of your smile and your ability to chew properly. Invisalign can be used to gradually move crooked teeth into their proper position.
Gaps between teeth, also known as diastemas, are spaces that occur between two adjacent teeth. These spaces can affect both the appearance of your smile and your ability to chew properly. Invisalign can be used to close gaps between teeth by moving them closer together.
Who is suitable for Invisible Aligners
01. Adults & Children
If you’re considering whether or not to get clear aligners, you’re not alone. In fact, millions of people have already made the switch from metal braces to this virtually invisible way to straighten teeth. And it’s no wonder why! Clear aligners are comfortable, convenient, and can be removed for eating and brushing – making them a popular choice for both teens and adults. Here’s a closer look at why clear aligners might be the right choice for you.
02. Fewer trips to the orthodontist
Because clear aligners are removable, you don’t need to see the orthodontist as often as you would with traditional braces. In fact, most people only need to go in for check-ups every 6 weeks or so. And if you have any questions or concerns in between appointments, you can always give us a call. We’re happy to help!
Treatment Process
Invisible aligners follow a similar protocol to traditional braces, as you will be required to visit the practice every 4-8weeks to monitor the improvement of the teeth.
Before receiving clear aligners, a specialised orthodontist must examine your teeth to determine if clear aligners are suitable for you and your goals. Along with choosing the eligibility of your teeth, orthodontists must ensure patients are prepared to wear their aligners every day for over 20 hours. Without the willingness to wear these aligners daily, their treatment outcome will not be as good.
After a successful consultation, your orthodontist will take a series of dental x-rays, photographs, and impressions of your teeth. Next, all data surrounding your teeth will be sent directly to a specialised clear aligner lab, along with instructions on how your orthodontist wants the teeth to move. Finally, all information is input into a computer, resulting in the generation of a 3-D rendering of your teeth along with a computer rendering of how they will eventually move to their preferred position.
It takes approximately a month for your aligner trays to arrive at your orthodontist. All aligners will be different and should be worn at different stages. A specialized orthodontist will go through each step with you and explain the outcome of each aligner you wear and how long each should be worn.
Sometimes during the final stage of your treatment plan with clear aligners, your teeth may need some final adjustments. Our team will inspect your teeth and may order some last refinement trays of aligners at no additional charge.
To maintain the perfect smile created with clear aligners, patients must wear retainers to allow the bones of their jaw to solidify around the new shape of their teeth. Your retainer should be worn for the rest of your life to ensure the teeth stay in the desired position.
