What can Clear Braces Treat?

A number of problems can be corrected using clear or white braces.  Some of the most common types of malocclusion include:

A crossbite is when the top and bottom teeth do not align properly when you bite down. This can cause gum disease and bone loss in the jaw. Crossbites can be treated with braces on the upper and/or lower teeth to move them into proper alignment. In some cases, surgery may also be necessary to correct a crossbite.

Crowding occurs when there isn’t enough room in your mouth for all of your teeth. This can be due to extra teeth (like wisdom teeth), large teeth, or simply small jaws. Crowded teeth are at a higher risk for decay and gum disease because they’re more difficult to clean properly. They can also be difficult to repair once damage has been done.

An underbite is the opposite of an overbite—when your lower teeth protrude past your upper teeth. Underbites can also be caused by genetics or bad habits, and can lead to trouble eating and speaking, as well as pain in the jaw and gums.

An overbite, also known as “deep bite,” occurs when the top teeth bite down too far over the bottom teeth. This can cause the gums to recede and eventually lead to bone loss in the jaw. Overbites can be treated with braces on the upper teeth to pull them back into alignment with the lower teeth. In some cases, surgery may also be necessary to correct an overbite.

An overjet, also known as “buck teeth,” is when the top teeth protrude out beyond the bottom teeth. An overjet can be caused by genetics, bad habits like thumb sucking, or injuries to the mouth. Treatment for an overjet usually involves wearing braces on the upper teeth to move them back into alignment.

Spacing occurs when there are gaps between your teeth where there shouldn’t be any. This can happen if you have missing teeth, small teeth, or you had baby teeth that fell out but adult teeth never grew in to replace them. Like crowding, spacing can also make oral hygiene more difficult, which puts you at greater risk for decay and gum disease.

Clear braces straighten and perfect crooked, misplaced, protruding, and overcrowded teeth.  They effectively eliminate and close gaps between teeth. Clear braces are a commonly sought-after treatment option for adults who require braces for severe orthodontic treatment and don’t want the appearance of traditional braces for an extended period.  Clear/white braces have increased in popularity since they have been offered as an alternative to metal braces, particularly in adults.

What to look out for

Get the Smile you Always wanted

Frederick Orthodontist Dublin 1 can provide you with white or clear braces that will give you the dream smile you’ve always wanted; during your treatment, you will need to wear braces for around 18-24 months. But don’t worry; we will work with you to find a time that works best for you and your lifestyle! We understand that every patient is different, and we will do everything we can to make your experience as positive as possible. If you are looking for a more natural-appearing brace, get in contact with our team to discuss your suitability for white or clear braces.

This method is used to treat the same malocclusions as metal braces. Malocclusion is the dental term for ‘incorrect bite’; there are many forms of malocclusion, and once this is identified your orthodontist will be able to work with you to put together the most suitable treatment plan.

Invisible Orthodontics

It is important to explain the differences between Clear Braces, White Braces and Invisible Aligners

White braces use brackets made of ceramic or porcelain; they look similar to metal braces but will be white in colour rather than silver. They are an excellent option as they blend very nicely with your natural teeth. However, like your teeth, the brackets are susceptible to staining from high-pigmented foods and drinks.

Clear braces use translucent brackets; this makes them less visible on the teeth than the metal brackets, which are silver. They are also less susceptible to staining compared to ceramic or porcelain brackets. However, clear braces still require metal wires and elastic bands, which are still visible but much less noticeable when paired with the clear brackets. Treatment times are often the same as traditional braces and span between 12-24 months.

Traditional braces, either metal, clear or white, will still require the use of elastic bands, which are likely to pick up stains from foods or drinks. These bands can be replaced, but you must keep vigilant with regular cleaning between meals and snacks. You may also want to use an interdental brush or water flosser to eliminate any food particles that might get stuck in your braces. If you don’t keep your braces clean, you could have permanent stains on your teeth.

Are Clear Braces Suitable for me?

Who is suitable for Clear Braces

01. The Perfect compromise

For patients who want the benefits of metal braces without any noticeable appearance, clear brace options are available. These white/ceramic braces provide excellent results and can be beneficial for most adults with commitments or roles that prefer a more discreet orthodontic treatment plan in public spaces where they will interact frequently throughout their day-to-day lives such as work buildings and homes alike

02. Not as Durable as Metal Braces

The choice of brackets is important when choosing a type for orthodontic treatment. For example, white and clear braces do not offer the same benefits as metal ones; they also have different limitations that should be considered before making your decision

Treatment Process

The key aim of any orthodontic treatment is to create a plan that will result in the best outcome for the patient’s desired results. There are several intricate steps involved in receiving clear/white braces which will ensure all patients are delighted with their results, including:

The average time for orthodontic treatment is around 22 months; at Frederick Orthodontic Clinic, we understand that this is a significant period of time in a person’s life, and it isn’t always ideal to have noticeable braces attached to your teeth at all times, and this is where clear braces can be a perfect solution.

This beginning step is the most important as it is where our specialised orthodontist will outline clear steps. Here, we will discuss your specific goals and the best way we can reach them. Next, the patient will undergo x-rays, impressions, and digital scans during the consultation process. Based on the results of this data, our team will set out a step-by-step plan resulting in the best treatment and outcome possible.

The next stage is the first appointment, during which the braces will be applied to your teeth. This usually takes place 4-6 weeks after the initial consultation. During this appointment, the orthodontist will clean your teeth and apply a bonding agent to them. They will then attach brackets to your teeth and connect them with archwires before tightening everything into place.

The procedure for clear/white braces is similar to traditional metal ones. Firstly, the orthodontist will polish your teeth with dental polish in preparation for priming. After priming teeth with a conditioner, dental cement is applied where the clear bracket is then fitted. The adhesive is then hardened using a curing light which can take between 3 and 20 seconds to complete per tooth. A white/clear metal wire is then used to connect the brackets.

After the application process is complete, patients can expect to revisit their orthodontist approximately every month to view the treatment progress and to make any readjustments to the braces. Regular readjustments are expected as the orthodontist regards improving the straightening process. In addition, patients are responsible for maintaining their braces and cleaning them regularly to achieve optimum results and good oral health throughout the treatment.

When the teeth have moved to the desired location, you will be ready to have your braces off! This appointment is approximately 30-60minutes and involves removing the brackets, which is a simple process. Once the brackets are removed, a small amount of residue will be left behind; the orthodontist will remove this residue leaving a perfect shiny smile!

Once your braces have been removed, you will need to wear a retainer in order to maintain the newly aligned position of your teeth. Retainers typically need to be worn for at least 22 hours per day for the first few months after braces are removed. After that, you can gradually reduce the amount of time you spend wearing them until you no longer need them at all.

Good oral hygiene is crucial for the success of orthodontic treatment. Your dentist will help you learn how to floss correctly, use interdental aids and brush effectively whilst wearing your braces; as well showing a single tuft toothbrush that may be used around these brackets if needed.

Treatment Time

How long does the treatment with clear/white braces take?

Depending on the severity of the case, most patients can expect to wear their clear/white braces for approximately 12-24 months. There are a lot of variables that determine the amount of time a patient will need to wear braces, including:

  • The severity of the case.
  • Dental hygiene efforts while braces are applied.
  • If the patient regularly visits their orthodontist for check-ups and adjustments.

It is important to note that orthodontic patients must maintain their teeth after treatment. After treatment, many patients will need to wear a dental retainer while sleeping to keep their teeth from moving out of place again. Regular check-ups with your orthodontist following the treatment process will be the best way to view the state of your teeth consistently.
